16th July 2024.

The Summer Transport Sale at Tennants Auctioneers on 13th July offered a broad array of vintage and collectable cars, motorcycles, live steam models and diverse automobilia.

Amongst the highlights of the sale were a 1979 Austin Morris Pick-Up, which sold for £11,000 (all figures exclude buyer’s premium) and a 10 ¼” Gauge Garden Railway Set, complete with Class D16/1 locomotive powered by a diesel engine, four passenger wagons, which sold for £12,000.

However, it was rare automobilia that generated the fiercest bidding on the day. The section was topped by two good children’s pedal cars; a Scarce Morris 1000 Junior Pedal Car sold for £4,000, and an Austin J40 Roadster Child’s Pedal Car, circa 1950s sold for £3,200.

Performing well above estimate, too, were a 1920s/1930s Garage Forecourt Air Compressor Opaque Glass Shade (sold for £3,200), an Early 20th Century Double-Sided Advertising Sign for Rover Imperial and Meteor Cycles (sold for £1,400), a Double-Sided Advertising Sign for Karpol Car Polish (sold for £600), and a Lalique for Bentley Frosted Glass Mascot (sold for £850).
