Results: Urban and Contemporary Art Timed Auction in aid of York Food Bank

24th October 2022.

A timed charity auction of Urban and Contemporary Art hosted by Tennants in aid of York Food Bank has achieved a hammer total of £20,285. The auction was organised by Bombsquad, a York-based non-profit community arts organisation passionate about street and contemporary art. Bombsquad aims to enrich the cultural landscape of York whilst raising money for local charities.

The sale featured rare and interesting works from notable artists, some of whom seldom offer works at auction. Highlights of the sale were ‘S**ty Riot Shield’ by James Cauty which sold for £3,800 against an estimate of £500-£700, ‘Walled Off Hotel, Box Set’ by Banksy which sold for £3,700 against an estimate of £500-£700 and ‘Untitled 2022’ by Phlegm which sold for £2,900 against an estimate of £1,000-£1,200.

The auction formed part of Totally Hammered, Bombsquad’s second fundraising event at the Crescent, York on 20th October which brought together artists from the street and contemporary art worlds to raise urgently needed funds for York Food Bank.  Around 70 guests attended the evening, hosted by Danielle Ward when a raffle also raised over £500 and a further lot of donated art was auctioned in the room, raising £75.   Bombsquad’s Lee Lambley said, “We are incredibly grateful to all the artists who donated their works and everyone who volunteered their time which has made Totally Hammered such a success”.  York Food Bank Manager Adam Raffell said, “We have been overwhelmed by the amount raised by Bombsquad which will provide much needed funds at this critical time”.
