With an enthusiastic following, Tennants Auctioneers’ Stamps, Postal History & Postcards Sale on 26th October achieved a total hammer price of £165,800 against a top estimate of £121,000 with 98% of lots sold.
Leading the sale was a high quality and near-complete mint King George VI collection that sold for £13,000 against an estimate of £5,000-£7,500 (all figures excluding the buyer’s premium).
Another British Commonwealth collection in two albums that had been several decades in a bank vault fetched a combined £9,200 (estimate £3,000-£3,750) and there were encouraging results with non-Commonwealth countries too, with an estate of mainly European country collections fetching a total of £10,000 (total estimate £4,600-£6,200).
Tennants Auctioneers’ Stamps and Postal History Consultant, Joseph Addison said:
“It was rewarding to see yet again such a keen response to the sale; bidding was strong in every section and the results reflect the continued strength of interest that Stamp collecting commands”
