The Coins, Tokens and Banknotes Sale, held at Tennants Auctioneers on 14th February, featured an exceptional collection of coins from the late Michael Whiteley, president of The Yorkshire Numismatic Society in 2000. The collection featured Roman, hammered, and milled coins, including high-grade Georgian and Victorian silver coinage and achieved a 100% sold rate and a total hammer price of £13,900 for the 58 lots. Highlights of the collection included a William III Shilling 1697, which sold for £500 (all figures exclude buyer’s premium), an Elizabeth I ‘Milled Sixpence 1562, which sold for £400, and a fine silver issue Edward VI Shilling 1551-3, which sold for £280.

Highlights from other vendors in the sale included a Charles I Gold Unite in very fine condition (sold for £3,500), a rare George III Guinea 1763 (sold for £1,800), and a George III Guinea 1787 (sold for £1,000). Good results were also achieved for a Polish Marriage Medal made by Sebastian Dadler circa 1636, which sold for £750, and a set of six Early USA Tokens, which sold for £750.
