Rare Bottles of Wine & Whisky
One of the star lots of the sale is a bottle of the rare 1952 Macallan 80% proof, bottled by Campbell Hope and King and distilled by Kemp Macallan Glenlivet (estimate: £3,000-4,000 plus buyer’s premium). Macallan is perhaps the most eagerly collected whisky, and prices for good, rare bottles such as the present lot are on the increase. Fans of Macallan will also be competing over several bottles of the much sought-after Macallan 18-year-old, such as a 1974 distilled bottle estimated at £1,000-2,000 (plus b.p.). Elsewhere amongst a strong Spirits section are a good selection of cognacs, including a rare Martell Silver Jubilee bottling, produced to commemorate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977; it is made from cognacs from 1815, 1904, 1914 and 1918 (estimate: £400-600 plus b.p.).
Many famous vintages of port are represented in the sale, including bottles from 1912, 1958, 1963, 1966 and 1977, and two Magnums of Krug from good vintage years are expected to attract attention with a bottle from 1979 estimated at £1,000-1,500 (plus b.p.) and a bottle from 1982 estimated at £800-1,200 (plus b.p.).
Bordeaux is well represented too, with bottles from all the top properties, including single bottles of Lafite Rothschild, Margaux and Latour from good vintages. One of the oldest bottles up for sale is a 1934 Mouton Rothschild Pauillac from the Fortingall Hotel Cellar (estimate: £250-500 plus b.p.). A superb bottle of the legendary Chateau d’Yquem 1929 Sauternes in excellent condition is also expected to catch the eye of collectors, with an estimate of £1,000-2,000 (plus b.p.).
A fully illustrated catalogue for the sale of Fine Wine & Whisky will available leading up to the sale.
