Preview: December Fine Wine & Whisky Sale

Raise a glass of something special this year with one of the fine vintage, wines, ports, champagne or rare whiskies coming up in Tennants Auctioneers’ bumper sale of Fine Wine and Whisky on 2nd December.

Timed perfectly for stocking up for Christmas or adding something special to your cellar, the sale offers a fantastic range vintage Bordeaux from the majority of the leading Châteaux in the region, and Burgundy from top producers. Highlights of the wine section include a bottle of Château Mouton Rothschild 1981 Pauillac (estimate: £300-500 all prices exclude buyer’s premium), a bottle of Château Lafite Rothschild 1955 Pauillac (estimate: £300-500), six bottles of Château Lynch Bages 1985 Pauillac (estimate: £600-700), and a collection of seven bottles of Château Talbot Saint-Julien from 1988, 1989 and 1990 (estimate: £450-550). There is also a desirable case of the most highly regarded white Bordeaux – Château Smith Haut-Lafitte 1987 Pessac-Léognan (estimate: £500-700). From outside France comes a case of the covetable Marchesi Antinori Tignanello Toscana IGT 1996 (estimate: £1,200-1,500).

Also of note is a good selection of vintage champagne by the likes of Moet & Chandon, Krug, and Dom Perignon, of which two bottles of the latter’s 1969 vintage are on offer with an estimate of £400-600 each. A curious collectable edition of Moet & Chandon 2000 vintage, housed in a special Millennium Party Case alongside photograph frame and disposable camera, is also offered with an estimate of £200-300. Highlights of the Port in the sale include six bottles of the desirable 1963 vintage by Dows (estimate: £400-600). Good bottles of cognac include Remy Martin Louis XIII Grande Champagne Cognac in a Baccarat decanter (estimate: £800-1,200), and a bottle of Peuchet & Cie Cognac Grand Champagne Reserve De L’Empereur XO (estimate: £300-500).

Included in the Whisky section of the sale is a Private Collection of Whisky put together in the 1970s and 1980s; including limited edition modern bottlings and annual releases from leading distilleries. Notable bottles include Springbank Local Barley 10 Year Old Campbelltown Single Malt Whisky distilled in 2011 (estimate: £300-500), and The Macallan 18 Year old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the 2016 annual release (estimate: £250-350).
