Fine Beeson Model Locomotive Steams to Auction

A model locomotive of superb quality and estimated to sell for £7,000-10,000 (plus buyer’s premium) is the star of Tennants Auctioneers’ Toys, Models and Collectables Sale on 27^th July. The O Gauge 2-6-2T Class 3MT locomotive was made by James Stanley Beeson (1906-1990) of Ringwood, Hampshire, a model train maker of exceptional talent. Models by Beeson are much admired and sought-after amongst collectors; this particular example is finished as BR 82007 and was once illustrated in the October 1960 issue of Railway Modeller magazine.

Further interesting locomotives in the sale include a Private Collection of Wrenn models, including a Wrenn W2289 Canadian Pacific Locomotive Southern 21C5 on offer with an estimate of £250-350. A Bing O Gauge Live Steam 4-4-0 Black Prince 1902 (estimate: £300-500) is also of note, as is a good Private Collection of Hornby and Bachmann DCC (Digital Command Control) models, which include sound effects. Live steam is well represented in the sale too, with a strong section lead by a Maxwell Hemmens Live Steam Traction Engine, ‘Messenger’, on offer with an estimate of £800-1,200, and an Alyn Foundry of Wrexham RLE Hopper Engine on offer with an estimate of £350-450.

In the Collectables section of the sale, and with Star Wars interest, is a Hans Solo Premium Format Figure by Sideshow Collectibles. Sold in the original box, the figure is number 1169 from a limited edition of 2500 and is being sold with an estimate of £120-180. A large Private Collection of Beatles related memorabilia is also up for sale, with a mixture of vintage collectables, such as a Selco ‘The Beatles New Beat Guitar’ on offer with an estimate of £80-120, and quirky items such as a ‘The Only Authentic Beatle Wig’ by Lowells Toy Corp, sold with a Beatles Comb with an estimate of £70-100.
