Jo Selwyn-Smith 'Cirrusly Painting'

20th May 2025 to 3rd June 2025

Jo Selwyn-Smith (b.1956) is a landscape painter and furniture maker based in Swaledale.

After leaving school in 1973 Selwyn-Smith studied painting and print making at Isleworth Polytechnic. This was followed by 4 years at Ealing School of Art where he continued to paint whilst studying product design and model and prototype making. Following a varied career, Selwyn-Smith together with illustrator Kevin Tweddell opened Selwyn-Smith Studio, a shop supplying art materials from the world’s finest manufactures of paints, brushes and painting and drawing surfaces and materials.

With the sale of the business in 2008 Selwyn-Smith relocated to the Yorkshire Dales, based at his studio and workshop on the moors high above Swaledale. His paintings are dominated by the ever-changing sky and the effect that it has on the rugged Dales landscape.

All the paintings are inspired by the landscape of Swaledale, Jo’s home, interpreted through his imagination rather than purely depictions of landmarks.

The selling exhibition is part of the Swaledale Festival.

The exhibition is free to enter.
