This Autumn Tennants Auctioneers are delighted to present ‘The Art of Colour’ a free to enter non-selling exhibition.
A vivid range of paintings and sculpture, on loan from public institutions and private collections, will celebrate the rich use of colour in art from the 16th century to the present day. This eclectic and colourful exhibition will bring together an array of works from the Italian Renaissance to the present day.
The artists represented are all known for their masterly use of colour, and will include such names as George Romney, Joseph Wright of Derby, Sidney Nolan, Anish Kapoor, Bridget Riley, and Pierre-August Renoir.
Cambridge art historian, writer, and broadcaster Dr James Fox, who has written the foreword for the exhibition catalogue, says: “Colour has played a pivotal role in human culture for hundreds of thousands of years, and has been a defining feature of visual art since our ancestors first started painting on cave walls… Over the last five years, Tennants has built a reputation for its intelligent and exciting exhibitions. This one is no exception. It delights the eye and stimulates the mind, reminding us not only of the beauty of art, but the irresistible power of colour.”
