Modern and Contemporary Art is a dynamic and fast-growing sector in the art market, with increasing following of established and new collectors. The department offers three dedicated sales per year offering modern and contemporary paintings, sculpture, prints and multiples and drawings by leading artists from the early 20th century through to the present day. The department regularly achieves record prices and handles significant works by the likes of Alfred Wallis, David Hockney, Henry Moore and Henri Gaudier-Brzeska.
The Modern and Contemporary department has an enviable reputation for selling Northern Art, having handled important works by some of the region’s leading artists such as L.S. Lowry, Harold Riley, Helen Bradley, and Geoffrey Key. The department is also proud to have successfully represented many important living artists and artists’ estates from the North, including Norman Cornish, Peter Brook, John Ridgewell, Marie Walker Last and Karl Torok to name but a few. These long-standing and continuing achievements have allowed the department to grow into one of the leading auction houses for the sale of Northern Art.
